Greenwich

On Monday we went for a trip to Greenwich a very historical area of London, and amazing place with old architecture. Essay

Last Friday , we had to hand in the first Essay that was about " Globalisation is destroying culture. We all dress the same clothes , eat the same food, watch the same movies.Globalisation is attempting to create one homogenous culture”
My opinion was that the culture is not being destroying by globalisation , because your culture is your identity , and you can shape in a different way but not lose it. Especially in fashion, where the big amount of information is a very important think for have knowledge and you can have your on voice and choose what you want. The phenomenon globalisation made the places nearest , so is easy nowadays to learn about different cultures and tradition , and this is a way to spread this cultures, where more people will have access to it and get some knowledge about.
Culture is a very strong word and means all the choices that every person makes every single minute in their life , and the globalisation just help that this choices being more intelligent and better, for the big amount of information.

Wimbledon

Saturday was a sunny day and I decided to listen my father and go to check the Wimbledon Championships, so I took a train and after one hour trying to find the place to buy the ticket I finally found it, and the big surprise was that it cost just 1 pound . Surprised me because everybody said to me,  that is very expensive to get inside the ground, but it wasn't.  The ground is very nice, a lot of old people sitting around the big screen, drinking a pint and watching the match. Is unbelievable big . with a lot of Cortes, where the matches happen, restaurants, bars and shops.

British Design

On Friday we had class at Victoria & Albert Museum , to see the British Design 1948-2012 exhibition.
The exhibition was really nice and I got impressed how the British developed the design so fast in last 50 years. After the Second World War the cities was devastated so they had to reconstruct almost everything, so they rebuild in a modern way , so people don't had so much money in that time and the Modern furniture with mass produced appeared , to fit in the small flats and they got cheaper. Some furniture magazine appeared , to help people to learn how to improve the home design and to save money , the first furniture magazine was "House and Garden". Everything started to be rebuild in a modern way , such as the transport that developed very fast to connect cities in high speed.
The fashion also changed and new movements start to appeared, like the Punks because Vivienne Westwood. Some fashion magazines also started to spread the fashion , music , art and young culture, helping the younger designers and artists.

"Do we need to know the person to know or understand the work?"

Today at Presessional course , we had a debate about "Do we need to know the person to know or understand the work?"
My opinion is that you can appreciate the Art work without knowing the Artist , but if you want to understand the work you should get some information about the artist , like his background and inspirations. So you can understand deeply what the artist did it , and may why the artist chose the colors and shapes.
p.s. Like Kandinsky you can appreciate his your , think that is beautiful, creative. But if you know his background you are going to realize that we studied music before being a painter and this is a big influence in his work.

City of London Festival

Today I saw this image in the streets of London and I got impressed, The City of London Festivals, there was a piano and they wrote in it "Play me , I'm yours", so there were a guy  playing the piano, very well, looked like a musician. I admire how the Londoners don't care about other people and they do show they talent , wherever it is possible. I can say that this city breath Art, and is amazing how people respect and supports it.

Bauhaus Exhibition

Last Friday , we went to a Barbican Centre, where is happening the Bauhaus exhibition. Bauhaus is the most famous Art School 1919 to 1933.
The Bauhaus movement changed the world design concept. At the exhibition you can see the evolution of the design and architecture. There is also the studies of different materials and colors , searching for the best  way to connect function and beauty. And this design that changed the 19th century,we have big influence from this movement and we can see it around us. Is clearly the transition from huge constructions with a lot of details and after Bauhause we have Geometric and clean lines, without so much details but more functional. The begging of Modern art.
The German government in 1923 stipulated that the Bauhaus should do and exhibition, were the industry could see the new products that they were doing inside the school, so after is exhibition some the products started to be produced in mass, like the kid toys.
A lot of influents artist are there, Kandinsky , Paul Klee, Marcel Breuer and much more. Kandinsky and his primary colors study  with clear shapes and colorful work.Kandinsky influenced in the work of many artist in that time. we studied at Bauhause for one year.

Marcel Brauer studied and was a teacher at Bauhause, his most famous work is the tubular steel furniture, the famous chair that have continuous lengths of steel achieved as minimum of material and a level of visual transparency which fits with the modernist desire for interior spaces.

Red Telephone Box

Everybody knows that the Red Telephone Box are a traditional symbol of London, they appeared in the streets around 1920,  after some changes in 1980 they got the same shape and color until now.

Walking in streets of  London I saw some different Red Telephone Box, so I got curious and I research what was going on with the typical Telephone Boxes. The project is called  BT ArtBox from the British Telecom , in which some artists are giving a new "face" to the classic Red Box. It is for commemorating the birthday of an ONG, called Childline,  that gives advice to kids from telephone. And after the exhibitions the Telephone Box are going to be sell and the money will go to the ONG.

London is always unexpected, sometimes you are walking in the streets and you get surprise in what you can see. Especially now during the summer and the Olympic Games coming soon, a lot of festival and exhibitions, there are so many that you can't know all of them .

Bringing art to the population is to bring knowledge, and is a good way to help a ONG. The artists can show they work and point of view and people can get this "message" everyone in the best way for themselves.

Sometimes I stop and think about how amazing this city is. How can a lot of amazing things happen in the same time. How can all this traditional and culture be always innovating. How they accept so easy the new things and how important the Art is for them.

Is clear that all this new concepts ,have a visible influence in the way people are here. It can be seeing  in the attitudes , the way they dress.

Portobello Road Market is an old street market, that started in 1860 when an order of nuns started to sold , milk, fruits and vegetables. The antiques, with high quality came after the Second World War. And nowadays is a very popular market and on Saturdays is full of tourists, Londoners and collectors.
Is an amazing place to visit.
